How do you start a search for a hair stylist?

I'm moving back to Orlando this fall (I go to the U. of Cent. Fl) and I want to find a hair salon/stylist that will help me take better care of my hair. I'm African American and before I would go to a Dominican salon but the blowouts that they give were painful and I never really saw any results. I just need to some help trying to control my split ends and bad edges. How do you start a search for a hair stylist?
The best way to get a recommendation is by word of mouth.

And if I don't know anyone there, I use Yelp.com or Citysearch.com.

1) Call the salons that seem promising, and ask if they have stylists that are experienced with African American hair. If your hair is processed (straightened or permed), include that in your question.

2) The first thing you have to have done is to get rid of the split ends by getting a good cut that gets rid of splits and shapes your hair.

3) Then you have to learn how to take care of your hair to minimize damage. You may have to go for a deep conditioning treatment. You definitely need to find out which shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, etc. you need to use.

4) Let your hair designer know how much time you're willing to spend on styling your hair, and have them show you how to style it.

Good luck! How do you start a search for a hair stylist?
Hello Jessica,

I'm a Licensed Hairstylist and HAIRCARE is My Main Thing. I have experience with all hair types and continue to prove that African American / Ethnic Hair can be Healthy, can Grow and can %26amp; will still look good.

I also pay special attention to clients with ';bad'; edges. I have a client that just turned 60, was told that her hair will never grow again by doctors, had severe bald spots %26amp; lots of breakage. Now she has a head full of hair and is swinging it all around. She's the best success story as far as haircare.

I do not like split ends at all %26amp; believe that they must be taken care of. When most of my clients first came to me, split ends was an issue. They are not an issue anymore %26amp; don't need frequent trimming due to healthy ends.

Hey it doesn't hurt to give me a try, my work is all guaranteed.

You can take a look at some of my work at www.myspace.com/TenderHairCare

If you see me, you'll know that your hair is in good %26amp; honest hands.
