How much am I supposed to tip my hair stylist?

I've never actually known, and I just found this new place to go, and they seem -really- professional and they're kind of expensive.. so, I don't really want to offend him or her by not tipping them the correct amount. How much am I supposed to tip my hair stylist?
You can tip up to 20% of the price of the service. It really depends on the results and how satisfied you are with the service. Just ask yourself some questions about the experience; did they meet your needs or exceed your expectations, did they spend enough time on you, did they give you a consultation to find out what your needs really are, did they rebook your next appointment and finally did they recommend products to maintain the style at home? If you can answer yes to all of these questions you found yourself a new hairdresser and you should tip them 20% if you can afford it. If not keep looking you will find the right one to fill all your hair needs, there's plenty of us out there.

These days i choose to go to have just regular cut to those place where tips are not being expected..just plain simple haircut..i would do my own shampoo at home.i don't need someone to wash my hair and i am not willing to give any money to anyone as a tip.period.

It only cost about 18 dollars for me to get a hair cut, so I end up giving her an even 20, giving her a 2 dollar tip.

R U aware that one is not expected to tip salon owner if he/she is the stylist. Their fee is usually higher than other stylists-check pricing. With the cost of hair cuts anywhere from $40 -$150 in my area, I rarely tip 20%. I am not a cheap either. It becomes too costly. I decide by service fee.

I don't think there is a specific amount, its entirely up to you,

I always tip around a £1.00 or the most was £3.00 but that was because i was very happy with the style.

I think they are grateful of a tip no matter how big or small but i say generally between £1 - £2

If you want to tip the stylist and the lady who washes your hair just give them a £1 each.

But I don't think you should go mad and tip them lots.

Hope it all works out well for you...

:-D
there is not a certain amount u should tip, if your happy tip just how much you think is approriate for the work and technicality of the wrok done xx
I usually tip my hairstylist 15% of the price. So, if my haircut was 60 i'd tip her 9 dollars.

My hair stylist suggest I start talking pre natal vitamins. Is this normal or healthy?

She said it will help me not go bald as fast because it balances the estrogen and testorone and cause my hair to stay thicker.

Is this true?

she also said it will make me have less body hair.

will it cause any other complications such as like my penis shrinking or anything?

thanksMy hair stylist suggest I start talking pre natal vitamins. Is this normal or healthy?
i highly doubt it will cause complications like that.... though you might wanna read about whatever she suggested before you really go for it! DAMMMMNNNN lol your hair looks REALLY GOOD!!! i mean i thought is looked really good before but now it is REALLY REALLY good! lolMy hair stylist suggest I start talking pre natal vitamins. Is this normal or healthy?
They are healthy, other than that your hair stylist is goofy.

All they are is vitamins and minerals with extra ones that a woman needs when she is pregnant.

They may make your hair thicker because there are certain vitamins and minerals that are good for your hair.

I don't think they have anyting to do with you penis, that shrinks with age.
I am guessing you are a guy cuz you mentioned you have a penis. I wouldnt recommend pre natal vitamins for a guy. There is a particular vitamin that you can take that will help keep your hair thicker longer. Give me a minute to do my research and I will let you know which one that is.
i take pre natal vitamins and they make you hair grow CRAZY fast.

...i really doubt that it will 'shrink your penis'....It wont even effect you in that way.

Pre natal vitamins are used for preg. women that allows them to get extra vitamins for their baby....its just a crap load of vitamins for your body...its good
I wouldn't. Instead, ask a doctor about oral or topical hair recession cures, like Rogaine foam or pills for hair loss.
If your a boy I wouldnt take the risk, cuz ur hair dresser isnt a doctor.

Take the biotin vitamin instead. It is for your hair and skin
i would talk to your family doctor before following your hair stylist suggestions...
Don't take medical advice from a hair stylist.
the word is TAKING not TALKING you moron.
Im pretty sure they are oh so wrong dude. Whats wrong with being bald? Bald people are sexy!
hm ive never heard of that maybe just stick to the normal vitamins

If she says to do it,then you should try it

Explain how being a hair stylist is related to chemistry?

how and which chemicals are used in the career?Explain how being a hair stylist is related to chemistry?
OMG that is totally a loaded question..we have to do different things (just for color even) to people who have ruined...sorry I mean...different types of hair. ...One example, A person who dyes their black, lets it grow out for 3 months %26amp; then wants it blond/red. They go to the store %26amp; get a box color %26amp; think it's going to lighten the black %26amp; automatically blend with the roots...well duh...first YOU CAN'T lighten color with color. Once your hair has been colored, you can only color it darker with color...otherwise you have to bleach it. %26amp; The roots will be a totally different color. Then someone decided to get a color remover...same issue...only now we have bright yellow roots..because it removed the natural color as well from the roots....and orange patches with black still in it. How many different colors %26amp; levels of developer do you think we have to mix up..and add a little blue to one mix %26amp; a little green to another mix..Does this help?Explain how being a hair stylist is related to chemistry?
Hair Dye, and mixing chemicals to create a certain color dye.

Also when you do perms you use chemicals.

There's lots of chemicals involved, actually.
Perms, Relaxers, Hairdyes, Bleaching agents for hair...

Can I make a career as a hair stylist?

I am 35, and looking for a career change.

Can I make a living off of this? Can I make a career as a hair stylist?
yes, but it would not make you as much money as something else wouldCan I make a career as a hair stylist?
you can make a living off of mostly everything. however, it might not make u tht much money.
Of course, if you are passionate about doing hair, then do it!
I think that if doing hair is one of your passions you should go for it. I am a hair stylist and am the manager at our salon. It depends on where you work what the average pay is.

Hope this helps
ooh yes. The place I get my hair cut, they make good money and they all really enjoy it(you can really tell). I really like it there(that's probably because I've been going there since I was like 4), because all the people are friendly. As long as your friendly and patient, things will work in your favor.
I am a salon manager in new orleans, the middle income for the stylist at the salon I work for is 32,000. Which is pretty high for our area, we are the top salon to go to. I think you can certainly make a living being a hair stylist you just may need to cut back to deal with the pay decrease

How much of a tip should i be paying my hair stylist?

I usually pay around $35-$40. and she does an AMAZING job. ive been giving $10. is that too much, too little or just right?

how much tip should i give? How much of a tip should i be paying my hair stylist?
I would say $10 is great, really. Especially the way the economy is right now and given the fact that her rate is $35-40.... $10 tip is great. How much of a tip should i be paying my hair stylist?
There is no ';should'; about a ';tip'; or ';gratuity'; - which means ';gratis'; or ';free';. In short, you do NOT owe anyone a ';tip';. It is something extra that you choose voluntarily to give (or not to give) to them. So, you do NOT have to give any tip at all, anywhere.

Whether you tip at all and (when you decide a tip is appropriate) how much you tip is totally up to you.

If a waiter/waitress in an expensive restaurant does a lousy job, I will give NO tip at all - and I will tell them why! If an average job, about 10-15%. If a superb job, about 25%. But that is MY decision - I tip what I can afford.

    ======================================鈥?br>

Side note: Many places (e.g., Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts coffee counters) have a ';tip jar';. Are they kidding???? For doing what what? Filling a paper cup with coffee, into which YOU then put in cream, milk, sugar, or whatever. I NEVER tip unless I have been seated and the other person (waiter, barber, bartender, etc.) has provided service BEYOND the minimal amount to do their job. But NOT to simply pay for my bag of take-out food at a pizza shoop or Chinese restaurant!!! Never!

hmm to me sounds like you're a very GOOD tipper. what i give depends on what services i receive. just a cut less than perm or colouring. for $35-$40 i would say $5 tip would be sufficent. but, i may be cheap? lol if she does an amazing job and thats what you have been giving her all along then i would stick to the $10 tip.
if she's the salon owner, you generally don't have to tip at all. that's an OLD rule. it seems to me though, that for any hair stylist, especially one you're happy with, $10 seems perfectly acceptable. maybe even a bonus during the holidays.
15% to 20% is standard, if she does a great job i would go with 20%. about $8 is right so you are actually giving a little more, that is ok because you have a good relationship with your stylist.
I've been wondering about this myself. I think 20% is reasonable, but if you're really happy with her and giving her $10 doesn't break the bank, then I don't think there's anything inappropriate about it.
I think ten dollars is just great-Maybe even too much. It just depends on how much money you have and what you think it's worth. I usually give mine anywhere between five and seven dollars...
That seems like a lot, however if you really the way she does your hair and you can afford it, go with it.
it depends on where you live and the cost of living even in this economy. I would say your tip is good its a little more than 20 %so that is good
What!??!?! You tip a hairstylest!??! haha, i swear everyone think's they deserve a tip now a days!..haha..but if you feel he/she does a great job then give them as much as you want :)
    I usually pay 15% - 20% from my bill.
    That's a nice tip.
If you love her.........20% is always good.

    You're a GOOD customer. :)
TO LITTLE if she did a good job, $15
That's a really good price. Especially if she does a good job :) I leave about that much for mine.
i give mine a $5 on top of the $20 cut.

Why do some hair stylist and make-up artist that give advice looks crappy themselves ?

If some hair stylist gives advice what a person do with a person's hair, when the stylist's has five different colors in and spiked. Why do some hair stylist and make-up artist that give advice looks crappy themselves ?
Because all their time is taken up by making others look good. If they're worth anything, they're constantly busy and don't have a free moment to primp themselves. Besides, if they do a good job, *that* is what keeps them busy, not what they look like themselves. Why do some hair stylist and make-up artist that give advice looks crappy themselves ?
Sometimes you can give advice to someone else better than you can yourself. most good hairstylist can not do their own hair. If you ever noticed all of the best look like the need beautician themselves.
    Those that can't, teach.
It is just like mechanics who drive crappy cars, when you do something for other people all day, you tend not to do it for yourself
You know I was wondering the same thing, its just sad. And its even worse if they are the ones that do the stars hair and makeup.
I don't know. It's like the dentists, they have ugly teeth....

What is the best way to build a client book as a starting hair stylist?

You should put an ad in the local newspaper and advertise that walk ins are welcome. Have business cards made and give them to all of your walk ins and the clients that you already have. Also, when someone gets a hair cut, color, perm or anything, ask them if they would like to go ahead and schedule their next appointment. Also, the salon that you start working at has alot to do with getting clients. Make sure they have a good reputation. You can also offer to do your family and friends hair for the cost of the products and not charge them labor. That way, your styles get out there and when they get compliments they can suggest you. I hope this helps! What is the best way to build a client book as a starting hair stylist?
I would host a '; come meet me'; type open house, have some refreshments (keep it simple) and offer beauty tips or maybe even cuts and styling for a cheaper rate. The key is to meeting the community and let them see what kind of stylist you are, hopefully one that will take their time and offer suggestions for appropriate styles.

Make sure you advertise in the local paper and maybe hand out flyers if you do the open house!

Good luck with your business!!!What is the best way to build a client book as a starting hair stylist?

What is the education needed for hair stylist and the skills needed for it?

Like what is some of the skills I need and how long of education and what degree and what are some credits? What is the education needed for hair stylist and the skills needed for it?
It depends on the state you live in. Some states for example require 1500 hours, others 2000 hours in a school of cosmetology. Some high school vocational technical schools provide cosmetology schools and there is most likely a cosmetology school somewhere close to you. You do not get a degree in cosmetology, you get a license. While there are some schools and christian colleges that provide cosmetology classes and give you their version of a degree, it's just an expensive license. Since it's specifically a number of hours it generally takes 9 months to a year. If you want to become an educator there are other requirements. Once you complete your required hours for your state, you have to take your state board exam which consists of a practical, in which you demonstrate basic skills and a written test. You must pass both portions of the exam to get your license. Good people skills, business skills and an artistic bent will contribute to your success. Good luck. What is the education needed for hair stylist and the skills needed for it?
Like OH My God!!! You can totally contact your locate college to find out but most colleges expect you to have a high school deploma!! Like totally good luck!!!
This varies state by state. I'm licensed in Georgia, where you have to have 1500 hours (about a year) of education in the classroom, or you can do 3000 hours of education as an apprentice in a salon.

If you do your education in a classroom setting, you will get a diploma, not a degree. However, this still doesn't license you to work professionally. You have to then go on to take the state board of cosmetology exam in your state which consists of a practical (hands-on) exam and a theory (written) exam. Once you pass this, you will receive a license from the state board and be ready to work in a salon.

To find out the requirements in your state, try doing a search for ';(your state's name) state board of cosmetology';. The website should come up and give you all the information you need.

    Hope this helps, good luck!
yeah what paigepark and like she said it depends on the state. I'm in Iowa and they require 2100 hrs. and I didnt have to do any hands on for my boards.

  • Where is the hair stylist in Barrowstone Market on Fable 2?

Alright. Go to the blacksmith. Then take a left. You will see a tailor, but ignore that. Keep going. You should see, if you keep looking up, a sign that I think has some scissors on it, or some picture different from tailors. Watch that carefully. It's the last store in that whole road.

I'm a hair stylist that works in a busy salon, and I'm 7 weeks pregnant. Is this okay to work?

I cut and color hair, (mostly cuts). I heard all kinds of answers from people with no experience in either hairdressing nor mommies, I would love to hear what people in these fields have to say. Though all answers appreciated, experiences would be better.I'm a hair stylist that works in a busy salon, and I'm 7 weeks pregnant. Is this okay to work?
my mom was a hair sylist when she was pregnant with me. she colored hair and i turned out fine.I'm a hair stylist that works in a busy salon, and I'm 7 weeks pregnant. Is this okay to work?
I have no experience in these areas, as I am only seventeen. But, my hairdresser worked up until she was seven or eight months pregnant. She only took time off because standing up with a big pregnant belly took it's toll on her. After awhile, you may want to try to not color hair, but as long as your body can handle it, you're fine. It also wouldn't hurt to see what your doctor says.
    7 weeks is ok

it gets tougher to move around when its month 6 or 7

so you should huddle up some money

hair dressing isnt really the ';moving around'; type of job

    your mostly standing

but standing will get diffcult when its month 6 1/2

so you should talk to your boss when its month 5, to have plenty of time to get everything ready

(like vacation time, a subsitute for you, a way to get money ...)
I am a hairdresser, and my friend who is another hairdresser was pregnant twice since we have been working together. She would refuse perms, and always use gloves when doing any chemical services. She only worked 2 days a week, and she worked till she had the babies. Just do not touch any of the chemicals! Especially perms and relaxers!!! Best of luck to you!
    no.
I'd say ask your doctor thats gonna be your best bet... Honesty!!

How much could you make a year as a hair stylist?

I am really interested in hair, and i want to do that when i am out of school :)

i was wondering a couple things, first of all, how much would could you make a year doing this?

also, what would you have to take in school ( university/college ) to do this? How much could you make a year as a hair stylist?
Hairstylists are paid in different ways. Many hairstylists earn a base salary, while some work on commission. Others earn a base salary plus commission. They also earn tips for their services.

Hairstylists usually earn between $10,000 and $45,000 a year, depending on whether they work part-time or full-time. The average salary for a full-time hairstylist is about $25,000 a year.

The amount of money stylists make also depends on their level of certification. In other words, hairstylists who have already completed their training will earn more than those who are still learning. In addition, those who have advanced training, offer specialized styling services, have built up a large clientele, or who work in salons in large cities typically earn a higher income.

Hairstylists can work in salons as employees or rent chairs or booths within salons. They may also operate their own salons. Hairstylists who own their own shop or salon typically earn more money.

    **************************************鈥?br>

Hairstylists have to be certified in some provinces. In other provinces, certification is available, but voluntary. Certification usually requires a combination of courses at a community college or private institution, plus on-the-job-training. Once you have completed the requirements, you must pass a certification exam.

Many people complete their on-the-job training as part of a provincial apprenticeship program. These programs vary in length from 2 to 3 years. However, a formal apprenticeship isn鈥檛 always necessary. In some provinces it is possible to write the certification exam after obtaining at least 2 years of practical experience in the field. Hairstylists in these provinces often complete in-school courses before beginning on-the-job training.

To enter an apprenticeship program, you need some high school education. In some provinces the minimum requirement is grade 10, while others require a high school diploma. However, it鈥檚 a good idea to complete high school regardless of the provincial requirements. Some high schools offer courses in hairstyling.

Hairstylist trainees and apprentices learn to use a range of specialty equipment and products to assist in the treatment of hair and scalp. In some cases, training also includes manicures and pedicures, and basic business skills.

Courses in business management provide a good background for those who want to run or own a hair salon. There are also useful courses offered by private companies on certain aspects of hairstyling, such as colouring or perming hair. How much could you make a year as a hair stylist?
You go to Beauty school or become a apprentice at a Salon. Depending on how busy the Salon is and how good of a stylist you are depends on how much you make. I know stylists that make a few hundred dollars a week to some that make 7-10 thousand a month. So it is a very wide range of pay.
It depends on where you work and how good you are really. There's no one amount. Obviously the celebrity hair stylists make tons of money but just a person working out of a small unknown studio the pay is lower.

I'm pretty sure many colleges offer courses in hair/cosmo.

If you google your specific area (I belive the yellow pages) they now have a ratings and review section where regular people put their thoughts down about stylists.

I generally walk in somewhere and look at who's doing hair and what they look like. If they look fun and exciting and their hair is fun and exciting, I'm more prone to let them do my hair because they have that ';Think outside the box'; attitude and spunk. (Spunk's not the word, but I just can't think of the word I want to say).

Abby's African Hair braiding? I know of a place in Statesville... Are you close to there?Anyone know of a healthy hair stylist that specializes in African American hair in Charlotte, NC?
If you go to Essence.com they have a salon directory. You should be able to pinpoint exactly which salon down to the stylist you'd like to check out.

God Bless and good luck on having healthy hair.

You will find lots of pictures on About.com. I typed in ';men's razor cuts.'; Then you can choose ';short';, ';long'; ';curly';, etc.

How to explain this to my hair stylist?

Okay so picture most boys from about 12-17 with emo-like hair you know how they have hair to one side? how do i explain this? which side to i train my hair to left or right? and how short do i have the sides? just leave it long on top right? please help! thanks! How to explain this to my hair stylist?
Just get it out it to the side you like it :)

Maybe take a picture to her

    Or hand motions lol

Personally I would go with a foreward diagonal :)How to explain this to my hair stylist?
just tell them you want the emo side bangs %26amp; how you do it depends.

How do you find a good hair stylist?

My hair needs a change. I have long hair and I was hoping to go for a shorter, layered look.. but I don't want to just walk into any random BoRics (no offense if you work there.) My hair is really thick and wavy so when I style it, it always turns out fried and poofy as hell. So half the time I end up throwing my hair in a bun anyway (which i need to rid myself of that terrible habit. Who wears their hair in buns?!..besides librarians!)

So basically I need a shorter hairstyle (that I can still throw up in a pony) but that is easy to style so I don't need to straighten my entire head. How do you find a good hair stylist?
i have no idea - but i have the same problem. i wear my hair in buns all the time. i'm going to keep an eye on your question so I can see the answers. Thanks for asking. How do you find a good hair stylist?
Ask your friends where they have their hair done, and look for photos in catalogs, magazines and online of hairstyles you like. I also ask people out in public where they go, if I really like their hair. Call several different salons and ask about free consultations. Go to a couple before you have anything done. If you like one of them, have your hair trimmed just in your regular style so you're not making a big commitment. You can also just have your hair washed and styled, but not trimmed. Then if you feel good about it, make an appt. for a cut and show the stylist your photos.

    Good luck!

Looking for a website that recommends hair stylist?

I move around a lot, and I am always getting bad haircuts. Is there a site that lets people know where to find the best stylist when they are new to a city? Also, it would be good to know where not to go.Looking for a website that recommends hair stylist?
There isn't any site like that that I know of. The best thing to do is when you you move, look around at people and see who's hair you really like and ask which hairdresser they go to. If you have straight hair, don't approach/ask someone with curly hair. Ask someone that has the same hair type as you do. Word of mouth is the best advertising. Don't be afraid to ';interview'; your new hairstylist... how long have they been doing hair? Do they get continuing education? If you don't feel comfortable talking with them, or they don't seem to want to listen to you on what you would like and offer you suggestions, they are NOT the stylist for you. Good luck!Looking for a website that recommends hair stylist?
no there isnt. i go thru the same thing as you. it stinks.

Could a barber/hair stylist use scheduling software?

My friends and I are developing some scheduling software. Basically, a customer could go online and schedule a hair appointment. Would this work for a barber/hairstylist? Why or why not?Could a barber/hair stylist use scheduling software?
They probably could, but there are several things to consider:

    1) Does a person need a shampoo first....I didn't ask if the WANTED one. When they walk in the door, do then NEED one?

    2) How many people will never show or leave after they get there when then see several people waiting?

    3) How will you determine how much time is needed per customer? Stylists work at their speed, some customers prefer scissors only, etc.

    4) How would you handle several people who click on an appointment at the same time?

    5) Are you planning to leave slots open for ';walk-ins';?

    6) Challenges with complex situations: Color, Perms, bleaching, longer hair, etc.Could a barber/hair stylist use scheduling software?
wouldnt work for me as a barber...we do first come first serve and no appointments
I could work, but you would have to have a way for it to check to see if someone is open for an hour or whatever. Outlook has a calendar in it, and if I want to schedule a meeting with someone, I can go in there and see when they are available, then send a request.

The problem I see is you would have to have each person schedule posted, and any changes would have to be reflected online as well.

Its a good idea, but I could see scheduling conflicts. Unless you have it where a person goes on, and says I want so and so to do my hair, then the site tells the customer when the next available slot is for. This would be a good thing because that person would have an appointment for that person, and not have to wait a long time to get their favorite person to do their hair.

  • Is there anything a hair stylist can successfully do for someone with thick, straight hair?

I am half chinese, so instead of having my mom's nice textured hair, I've got thick, straight hair.

I've been consulting with hairstylists in town %26amp; tried to get wavy perms. That was a big mistake. My hair got fried. I try to curl iron it, nothing happens. Hair gel/spray does nothing! I tried to get my hair layered, but nah, no luck on that either.

I was wondering if my type of hair is the kind that needs to be dealt with by a expensive, highly praised hair stylist??

Also, I live in a small town, so the choice in hair salons are minimal. I wasn't sure if maybe it's because of the salon choice that I have here.Is there anything a hair stylist can successfully do for someone with thick, straight hair?
Your problem is that now you have way to much volume. Get a large barrel iron and use the iron vertically. After you have ironed it, put ';silk therapy ';on it, by Farouk. Use a blow dryer and pull on your hair as you have the heat from the blower on it. Or pull it out with a wide tooth comb. Also buy ';Ego Boost'; by Bed Head. You can order it on line if you can't find it in your town. There is a way to handle your hair but first you have to get your normal cuts every 4-6 weeks and let it grow out. If you follow what I say and make sure you get deep heating conditioners, ask to see what they use. I use a combination of three different top of the line deep conditioners, so you have to make sure they aren't using crappy stuff. Matrix '; hair Masque'; along with Matrix '; +5'; by essential line, and Joico deep conditioner mixed equally as a deep heating conditioner is great. If they don't use something along those lines buy it yourself and wrap your head in saran wrap and do some house work for a couple of hours ( to develop heat in your scalp) then rinse your hair, don't shampoo. Let air dry. Do this once a week until your hair feels better. Should take a couple months. As you are letting your hair grow out don't do anymore chemical treatments ( duh). The trick for your hair is to razor it from the inside out. Not a lot of stylist know how to do this. The razor is a very tricky tool to use and I wouldn't suggest a stylist just using it without knowledge. You may have to do some homework on line and see if you can locate a stylist in a nearby city. Good luck and God bless, If you need more info email me.Is there anything a hair stylist can successfully do for someone with thick, straight hair?
No I don't think you need to spend a lot of money on an expensive stylist. The key is to find out what works for your hair and then be very open with telling the stylist exactly what you need. I too have thick (though it doesn't look like it because I have thin strands. But I have A LOT of hair and it grows abnormally fast) straight hair. I need a lot of layers to keep it light enough that it doesn't totally weigh me down. I've been to stylists before who just did not get that. If you have difficult hair like us you need to be blunt (not rude though!) with stylists. Don't be afraid to go in a tell them exactly what they should do to your hair. Too many times I've just sat there and let them give me some layers that were not enough and within a few weeks my hair was completely unmanageable.

Also maybe a wavy perm isn't right for you? Maybe you'd look good with some layering too.
You know we always want what we don't have it seems.

Most would do just about anything to have thick straight hair.

I think you need a good haircut. Something like a Jennifer Aniston. it's a long layered look.

    Best wishes....
As stated previously, thick straight hair is beautiful. What this shows is that you are dating the WRONG GUY. He should have loved your hair.

Grow the wierdness out. Then wear your hair in a straight blunt cut right at the shoulders, with bangs around your face.

    .
lol we always seem to want what we dont have. i just spent thousands of rupees to get my hair straightened!

well if u want curls the best thing would be to wash ur hair at night and roll them up in curlers. in the morning remove the curlers and spray some good hold hair spray. this method is cheap, temporary and safe. u wont spoil ur hair either this way.

but trust me thick straight hair is as good as it gets ! if u think its boring highlight ur hair in 2 nice colours. u get get gold highlights with brwon low lights. this will instantly perk up ur look and make u look gorgeous!

    all the best!
    i feel you on this.

my hair does nothing but stay straight.

last month i went to a very expensive place and asked for advice.

honestly your hair sounds the same as mine and it just isnt gonna curl no matter how much u pay someone to try !just embrace what u have. straight hair is sexy
Have you heard 'Re-bounding'? It straightens your hair (as far as i knew), but further it will help your thick hair problems. But I think wavy hair wouldn't suit you really, especially if you have a chinese face. I still think that straight hair is the best for chinese-faced, but maybe I'm affected by those movies... Still, you have to respect every trait that you have. If you can change your hair, try changing your hairstyle
Thick, straight hair is an ideal. You should not have done anything at all to it. Let it grow out straight again and this time don't mess with it. What you call ';texture'; or ';waviness'; is a flaw.

Make up hair stylist want to work in the film industry help?

I am becoming a make up/ hair stylist and I want to work in the film industry either on a tv show or movie and I know I will have to work for free which I am happy to I just want the experience.but how do I get started with that? Can any one help who do I contact?

11 hours agoMake up hair stylist want to work in the film industry help?
You need to get into the union. I think you have to work on a few films before you can get in it. I would look on craigslist. I have seen some listed there.Make up hair stylist want to work in the film industry help?
So I see your interested in becoming a HairStylest or maybe even a Makeup Artist. Well to start off you need to look around your area. You need to talk to people who are there. Maybe even getting someone to help you will be a great idea. Look for help in hair salons. Maybe they can help you. Look for classes for those certain areas. When you exceed in those areas, then you have to search wider. You need to look online, maybe search for those specific jobs in your town. that will help you. :]
well first of all, you will need to know people that are in the film industry. People do not usually walk into a studio and land a job. Start running in the same circles, going to the same functions and basically just getting your name out there in order to be seen.
    it aint worth it

What do I ask my hair stylist if I want a scene haircut?

I know what I want, which is short choppy layers with long underneath, but I'm not sure if she'll understand that I'm going for the ';scene'; look. What do I ask my hair stylist if I want a scene haircut?
    give her a picture of someone with a scene haircut or specifically tell her;

-divide my hair in two layers

-tie up my bottom layer to leave it that length

-shear or cut my top layer short in many messy layers

-make me side bangs coming frm the middle of the top of my head going to the side of my fromt,(normal side bangs or fringe)

-make sure the top layer doesnt pass my chin

but it would be easier to just give her a pic lol and u can i also color.coloring is cool.

i honestly suggest bring in a picture and make sure you go to someone who knows what theyre talking bout
Tell her that you want short choppy layers with long underneath, Also include that its scene and maybe have a picture.

if you bring a picture it's best a lot of people do that. just explain it to her as well as possible.

Does your hair stylist give you new haircut ideas?

Every time I go to get my hair cut I always ask the stylist, do you have any ideas on how my hair would look better. A new part, a shorter or longer cut a new color etc. They always say, ';that is your decision sir'; I would like to get new ideas from someone who has never met me and may see me different than I see myself. Is that to much to ask?Does your hair stylist give you new haircut ideas?
No generally I have to have the ideas and then my stylist tells me why or why not it would or wouldn't work for me.

What should I tell my hair stylist?

I don't actually HAVE a hair stylist -- I chopped my hair off at home when I was twelve-sixteen, but I've gone back to long hair. I had to cut it to about an inch %26amp; a half due to an unfortunate blue dye accident (green hair for the first three months of junior year; it would NOT STRIP OUT), so I've kept long for two %26amp; a half years ...

I want to visit a stylist to get some sort of nice treatment to make me feel beautiful. I don't want a color or a cut. A trim could be nice to get rid of dead ends, but I freak out that they'll try to take off too much. I have pretty nice natural layers cos of the short cut that I like.

What do I want? A vitamin treatment? Is it even worth it?What should I tell my hair stylist?
Book an appointment and tell the receptionist you want a deep conditioning treatment and a trim. Make sure you tell them you only want the ends trimmed, no length taken off, no new layers, JUST THE ENDS TRIMMED. That way you'll get rid of the dead ends and your hair will get a nice conditioning treatment. What should I tell my hair stylist?
You Should Get hair like my avatars
i would go with the treatment. i mean dang it takes way all the dead ends and make your hair shiny and more fuller. that what i did.
The best thing that you can do for yourself is to shop around. Most salons offer free consultations and you need to be comfortable with the stylist who will be cutting your hair. She will also tell you what the best method of treatment you need for your hair.

Also, take quite a few pictures with you. Make sure that you have that mirror in hand so that you can SEE exactly how much they're taking off before they actually do it. If you see rolling eyes, get out of the chair and politely tell them that you'll need to think more about it before you settle on any hairstylist.

As a stylist myself, I welcome this. I'm not afraid to give the client the mirror to be sure that they are comfortable with what I'll be doing. I would never take off more than what THEY want even if I believe that they need more...it's not my hair. It's thiers.

So don't let them talk you into anything that you don't want. They will offer colors and offering is fine..persistance in the matter, however, is not.

Be confident in your stylist, be comfortable with them..... and he/she will be there to help you for years to come.

I hope you find the right one for you!!

    ;o)
depending on what kind of condition your hair is in at this time should be the deciding factor on the tye of treatment you need. If your hair is damaged from chemicals or something then you actually need a restructuring treatment otherwise know as a protein treatment. if it is just dry from normal stuff or you just want something to make you feel better, then you only need a conditioning treatment. as far as the trim goes...be careful because cosmatology schools teach a trim to be about 1/2 of an inch...to me that is to much for a trim. i would say...';just barely nip off the ends and that is it'; then watch in the mirror and if it looks like they are gonna take more....STOP THEM right then and there. it is your hair not theirs....i think you will be pleaed as long as they understand what you are actually desiring..good luck!
I would take pics along with how you want your hair cut. Also, if your hair is not long or damaged you really don' t need a treatment unless you use blowdryers or irons on it. you need a good shampoo and conditioner.
i hate getting my hair cut but when i do i ask them to only cut off less then 1/2 inch and i get it conditioned and layered and i love my hair. just these little changes helped me a lot so u should try things like that.

A male stylist. That way I don't have to worry about him subconsciously effing up my hair. Don't bother trying to understand it...it's a woman thing.Do you prefer a male hair stylist or a female?
Male :D, especially if imma liking them :D
I have a male stylist and I totally agree with the females subconsciously ruining hair!
    Nice bewbies trump everything.
I prefer female, but that's only because my current hair stylist is female, and she's the best. But I'm a chick, so I don't care about her bewbies.
I only let females run their fingers through my hair, nice bewbies are a bonerous
The best ones I've had in my life are male -- and most of them GAY. I also had a few women but they weren't THAT good.... so I guess I'd vote for MALE.
    That's even better!
male...most are gay and make me laugh and are ohhh sooo sweet.
    i prefure a female

Hmmmm - that depends; which hair are they stylin'??? LOL

print out a good picture of selena gomez that shows off her hair style really well. bring it with you to your hair stylist. she'll be able to mimic the hair style as best as she can. if you don't have the right hair type for the style, then she will do something very similar to it.

Tell them you want side swept bangs, maybe take a picture to show them. Sometimes they will ask you if you want the bangs to start in the middle of your forehead or on the way side. Selena's starts in the middle not the side.
just take a picture to your stylist and talk to her about what you want......

I think you should tell her:

    ';I want side bangs like Selena Gomez.';

Bring a picture as a reference.
Tell ur stylist that you want ur hairstylist like Selena Gomez. That simple. Bring them pics of her, side, front, back. If they say they can't do that give them a tip!!!
Other than telling her, take a picture of what you what, and show her.

Salon stylists these days don't know how to cut that kind of hair. Most scene kids if you ask them cut their own hair. I used to go to salons and ask them to give me an emo/scene cut, but they eff'd if all up. So now I just do it myself.

Has anyone taken a hair stylist job just working on commission?

I have applied for a job at a highly respectable salon but it's commission only? 30% of anything i earn after 17.5% (vat) and 10% (additional extras) is taken of? Anyone heard of this before or done it? How did it work out? Does minimum wage apply?Has anyone taken a hair stylist job just working on commission?
Any one who take up hair stylist wither man or woman are rather stupid or lase and I think it's a bit of both, because there are these GALS and GUYS who are spending large amount of money to rent and then another ton loads of money

to fix the place like a pales and then they sit in it until they closed it because of no customer, so they cannot pay the rent

so have to go. Some times even if they gets the customers they

will just be working for the Land lord. The next thing is Restaurant, it's the same thing, and Real Estate office, that's another thing that is crowded as well but the first 2 are more ridiculous more than every thing, and every day you see some soccer pushed his or hers head from under the rock, so if some one give you that deal, well that's a new one and I do not blame them because you are one of the lase silly one so why not let you pay for it???. Open you brain and think and go and learn some thing Else so you can Eat, Drink Wear, and help your self. There are ten Billion %26amp; ten other things that you

can do so WAKE UP AND LIVE.!!!.Has anyone taken a hair stylist job just working on commission?
Seem you are from the UK; it seems like a ripoff but if you have just qualified and need to be doing something, then you don't have a choice, but do check private business and the law that govern them. Goodluck

Where can I find a good hair stylist for african american or biracial hair in Rhode Island?

I'm willing to go to MA.Where can I find a good hair stylist for african american or biracial hair in Rhode Island?
My mom used to go to Rosie's in washington park (neighborhood bordering cranston and providence). It's on broad street across from a mcdonald's. I know they do biracial hair....lots of hispanic people go there too. If they aren't right for you there are tons of salons on broad st. that fit that category. • Do you ever show photos to your hair stylist?

Like a photo of a celebrity to show them how you'd like your hair?Do you ever show photos to your hair stylist?
ya thats wat i do, last time i showed a pic of carrie underwood and told them 2 perm it the way her curls go and it ended up gr8!!! (exept it cost me $256 : ( but at least it looks goodDo you ever show photos to your hair stylist?
i've tried that before, but the stylists seem to have a habit of cutting hair the way they know how, and it usually does not come out looking like the photo; i even had one stylist to show me a pic, asking me if this way the way i wanted my hair cut...it was the very same pic i had given her the month before!!!
Yes definitely. Then they can tell you if you have the right kind of hair to pull it off or not. It's easier to show them a picture of what you like, then to try and explain it.
i no people that have/do but i personally dont.

    xx

p.s. if you want to, do it.

they wont refuse unless its impossible.
No I never have actually.. When I read magazines there I comment on different celebrities hair,, but never ask for her to style it that way...
yes, if you want to get a specific style so they can copy it... a pic definitely helps. cuz sometimes if u just explain it, it doesnt come out right
yeah i do and i tell her to be free to adjust my hair since we have different texture and color, and face shape
I just show random pictures. Except once I brought in a picture of Rihannas haircut to get my cut like that. :)
If I'm going to a new place, I usually do, otherwise there's no need to.
Nope. It would be a useless act.... hair dressers do what they want. You know that ...
i did once but my hair didn't look like my photo
hells yeah u do! its helps u and ur hairstylest get a better understanding of what you want. make sure its a decent photo though.
No, but I will. She cut my fringe diagonally!!
    nope.

Did my hair stylist use the wrong coloring on my hair?

Hi so I have dark brown hair but I wanted to get it lightened some.. and my stylist put some in but in sunlight it made my hair look ver orangeish redish...is that what its suppose to look like in the sunlight?Did my hair stylist use the wrong coloring on my hair?
No she did not use the correct color or she didn't leave it on long enough, go back and make sure she understands exactly what you want. Take a sample pic for reference if possible. If she tries to charge you let her know you will file complaints with the better business bureau and the state licensing board. Then do it. You have a right to get what you paid for to begin with.

Ash colors can give your hair a green tint. What she needs to use is a dabber for red. It helps tone down the red.Did my hair stylist use the wrong coloring on my hair?
You need to have her tone it, or if your entire head is blonde now you can tone it yourself. Get an ash blonde in the color that you want, that will tone out the orange. Bleach brings out the undertones in hair:orange, so you need to tone afterward, but some people don't do that for some reason.
She didn't lighten it enough, and left it brassy. Go back to a Salon and have them do it again(Tone it and whatnot.)
You need to get a toner and put it on, your hair stylist should have done that to lift out the brassy color.

In America, do you have to tip your barber or hair stylist?

Do employees in hair salons and barber shops work sloely on tips or do they get a base salary?

What if you're a guy and you're just getting a very basic (10-minute) hair cut, as opposed to a girl who's getting a perm that lasts for hours?

I want to leave a tip whenever it's customary, but sometimes I feel awkward giving a tip if it's not expected to do so.In America, do you have to tip your barber or hair stylist?
I get a reasonable base salary so I don't mind whether customers tip me or not. To me, the tip is just an expression of gratitude so it doesn't have to be large. Not necessarily 20%. Even just $1 is fine with me.In America, do you have to tip your barber or hair stylist?
It is proper to tip 20 percent, and it would be rude not to tip unless the haircut or service was horrible. The amount a stylist makes depends on whether they work for themselves or whether they are employed by the salon. In the first case, they are either the owner or they rent their space from a salon and they get all the money from the cut. In the second case, the stylist is an employee of the salon and gets a salary or hourly wage plus a commission from their services (could be anywhere from 10 percent up). In either case, it is appropriate to tip 20 percent (or more if you feel like it). The way I see it, a hairstylist is serving you the entire time you are there and worrying about how your hair looks, so they really deserve the tip. Not that a waiter doesn't, but they don't give the same type of personal attention. You can also tip the person who washes your hair ($5 or $10 is fine, not 20 percent).
It depends on what kind of salon/barber you go to. Some are based on salary and some beautician is based on tips! I always leave a very good tip...even for little snips for my hubby and son (anywhere between 30-50% sometimes)
it's customary to leave a tip. They do get a salary.
    no you dont have too

    but i do..

    its just manners here?

I'm trying to figure out which is better should I become a hair stylist or an art therapist?

I love doing hair, but I also love doing art but Idk if I would enjoy being an art therapist, but if were to become a hairstylist then I would try and start my own business. but in my family I'm like excepted to go to school when honestly I'd love just to do hair. I'm enrolled in a community college right now but idk what to do!I'm trying to figure out which is better should I become a hair stylist or an art therapist?
hello! i am in graduate school right now for art therapy. i am also a professional photographer and thought i wanted to do that for a living. i tried it for several years, but hated the business part. it nearly ruined my love of photography. i found out the hard way that running your own business is 10 times harder than working for someone. maybe 100 times harder! if you like business and are very ambitious, then starting your own business would be a good fit. i wanted to spend more time with my family and actually live my life!

but art therapy is perfect for me, as i've always loved art and psychology. you have to want to help people, and you have to love art. BUT you do NOT have to be a great artist! art therapy is about the process being theraputic, not necessarily the product. although the truly fascinating part is that people's thoughts and feelings truly do come out in art form, even if they don't realize it. colors, lines, shapes, and even placement of objects can all mean things and can all be analyzed. art therapy is becoming more widely accepted and many hospitals, psych hospitals, schools, rehab facilities, senior living facilities (just to name a few) have art therapists including having your own practice if you want to be in business!

if you just love to do hair, you can go to school for that, try it out and see how you like it! if you want a different career, you can always go back to school and you'll have your hair career to fall back on and help you make money through school (people always want their hair done!!). i wouldn't go for all the schooling required to be an art therapist if you weren't sure you wanted to do that.

    best of luck!!

What kind of questions will a hair stylist ask for an interview?

ive never seen an AS+S LIKE...THAT!

What's more important in a hair stylist: talent or personality?

Talent. Even thought you may enjoy the fact that your stylist is having a fun conversation with you due to his/her personality, that happiness will only last during the time you are at the salon. Once you leave the salon with a bad haircut, or something you did not want, you will regret the fact that you picked personality over talent. So even though this talented stylist may not have a personality, he/she will do a great job on your hair resulting in a more beautiful, happier you! =]What's more important in a hair stylist: talent or personality?
i think that personality and talent are the most important but really, what relaxes the person when you're cutting their hair off is you talking to them so i'd say personality because onnce there easy going about you doing whatever you're doing to their hair, they get relaxed so then you get relaxed. I think that's one of those things that go together! =]

    hope i could help!! =]

my hairstylist has a GREAT personality

and that relaxes me because she does a REALLY GREAT job once she's finished with meh! =]What's more important in a hair stylist: talent or personality?
talent!!! if you have a good personality but no talent then ppl wont want to get their hair done from you. maybe to be friends. if you have talent then ppl will go to you more and you will get more money. i think you should have talent and personality.
talent. personality can't cut hair. I do usually find my favorite hair stylists because they get my hair, though. I usually go to a person because of their talent, but stay because of their personality.
talent first;then personality in that order .if a new stylist is chatty i'm

scared only the really good ones can work well and talk it up.besides,

I don't like a new stylist to gab ; save it for when I know ya better plz!
i think talent because i know people who style hair who have good personalities and are fun to talk to but i don't know if id want them to cut my hair. luckily my hair stylist has both!
    Well both,

    you'd want a hairdresser

who could get your hair the way you wanted

it, and was nice and funny at the same time.
Talent. Personality might ruin your hair. Talent won't
Talent. My stylists name is Lauri and she is GREAT. She'll be giving me a great cut AND chatting me up. It's a good combo.
    Both. I don't want a bitchy hairstylist.

And i don't want a hairstylist to fck my hair up.
    talent.

why would you want a nice hairstylist that sucked?

    it just makes no sense.
    talent!

personality will not get you a good hair cut.
    def talent

What High School courses do I need to take to become a hair stylist?

I'm a freshman or Year 9. So any ideas? What High School courses do I need to take to become a hair stylist?
Some schools offer to let you take cosmetology, but some don't really offer that. If you long to become a hairstylist then after highschool you should attend a well reputed beauty school and get a degree in cosmetology so you can become licensed in your state. If you really want to learn more in highschool, when you are a junior or senior then see if a local salon will let you sweep up or intern there. You can learn alot just by assisting and watching stylists. What High School courses do I need to take to become a hair stylist?
cosmotology school varies from state 2 state but u r from canada ay?????
Well you would want to take a business type of class so you know something about working w/ people and money. You could also go to a tech school and take a course on cosmetology. Then you really don't HAVE to go to college. Good luck with that!
The only course you can take is cosmetology. their are special schools for this. Nothing you take in high school will get you there. You have to go a certain number of hours depending on your area. California requires 1600 hours. then you will have to go to your state's board of cosmetology and take a test to pass and be allowed to do hair. You can prob look up your state's state board on the internet. They will tell you the requirement for your state. They might be able to refer you to a school in your area. You have to be at least 16 in most states to even take the course. In some states you will need to be a graduate of high school to take the test.

good luck to you though!!!!! it is a wondeful career...
if your school offer cosmetology, then you should take that class. it will be counted as an elective, not a regular course. it will count towards your diploma type.
Yeah .. Sophmore or junior year you need to take Cosmetology ......

Its normally offered as ';vocational school'; meaning you leave to take cosmetology and come back and complete the rest of your classes.

Do it on family and friends during a time where they go out and be your advertisement for you, so that they can refer them to you. You can also have your mom and friends refer other people to you. Craigstlist may be another way to gain some clientele. Check with your State Board of Cosmetology to make sure that what you want to do is legal in your state.
you've already put you finger on it---family and friends

offer to do their makeup, and just make sure that they tell people who did it, if they get asked

Visuals are a really good thing to have for your stylist! Especially if you are going for a very specific look or style like you are. And yeah, go over it with them before you let them cut. make sure they know what they are doing. Or you might get disappointed.

Hope I helped! ;DWhat do i tell the hair stylist if i want my hair cut short like emilie de ravin?
try to print and bring in several phtos of this girl, don't expect the stylist to know who you are talking about. I haven't a clue who she is. you should try to have head shot photos of her from the front, side and back showing the hair style you are interested in. if shes a celebrity there should be pictures online or in magazines
Print out this picture from the link below and show it to the stylist so that way she gets an idea of what you want. Tell them you like her bangs and would really like her hairstyle.

    http://www.bestoffersstore.com/emilie-de鈥?/a>
Tell her what you just said in that question.

And then maybe you can print out a picture and show it to the hairstylist.

Thats what my sister did when she wasn't sure how to explain it. Good luck.
Print out a picture and bring it in. Then go over the details with the hairdresser. It's easy and affective.

How much do I tip a hair stylist for $1100 extensions?

The whole process will take about 6+ HOURS of the stylist's time. Long time, I know. So, should I tip $200 on a $1100 process? He is not my normal stylist, but is very good at what he does. How much do I tip a hair stylist for $1100 extensions?
WOW that is a lot for extensions that are just going to have to be redone in a few months or sooner. I think $200 may be a little much since he will be already making some money off the $1100 you are already paying for the process. That $1100 doesn't just pay for the supplies, the salon takes a cut from that as well as the stylist. The tip is just a bonus. I would say tip $10-15 per hour. How much do I tip a hair stylist for $1100 extensions?
Usually it's 15 percent of the total cost. If you want to give him an extra money because he's very friendly and/or he did a very good job, then that's good too. I usually just give the stylist 40 dollars for a 30 dollar trim and let her keep the change, but then again $1100 is a lot of money. Carry about 15 percent in your purse, and maybe an extra 50 in case. If, of course, he's not friendly or he makes a mistake, then cut it down a little. It's really how you feel he did.
You shouldn't tip him a thing!! He's already over charging you. I don't care how ';good'; he may be or how ';bald'; you may be. No extensions should have that high of a price. That is just ridiculous. I honestly think that you should not tip him. Its not like he will need it... And to think about it, It shouldn't take that long either. This whole thing sounds little fishy. I think you should find something a bit more reasonable. You'll still be pretty!! Good Luck!!
OMG?? $1,100.00? I live in Canada I have very thin hair so I get human hair the whole process takes me 3 hours and I pay $650.00! I wouldn't tip that much! But its my stylists Salon so the money is all hers the hair in fact is cheaper to buy! Its the labour people pay for. Thats funny! for a 3-6 month job? Well its your hair? Pay away ~

How much do I tip my hair stylist?

I go to the same lady every time, and she is great with my hair. I'm just confused about how much should I tip her. I usually get a trim, sometimes I do highlights. Do I tip her based on what she's doing, or how long she spends on my hair? Is the tip based on how much my haircut costs? Please tell me what's appropriate! How much do I tip my hair stylist?
10-20% of the cost before taxes or discounts of the service is the norm. Some people will tip more if they're especially happy with the results. However, tipping is not necessary if the owner of the salon is doing your hair because they usually calculate the tip into the cost of the service, but some people will anyway.

Things to take into consideration when tipping:

did you get the results you expected?

    was she polite?

did she pay attention to her work?

was the salon/her work station sanitary?

If the answer to any of these q is no, then you are under no obligation to tip.How much do I tip my hair stylist?
My stylist does different things depending on what I need done when I am there. I usually tip him the same, $15 dollars. I have been known to be more generous and I gift him at the Holidays. The tip should be appropriate to what they have done for you, the cost and if they have done a little ';extra'; at no charge.
i always tip based on how good someone is. so if you keep going back she must be good. i would then tip on what all she does. a trim wouldnt get that much of a tip unless it took forever to do because you kept changing your mind. highlights take longer. it's a mixture of everything but it should be at least 10-15 perccent
I also go to the same lady every time and I usually tip her anywhere from $5-$10 depending on what she did to my hair.
15-20% of the bill before taxes or discounts is what is expected.
15% of the total cost and if you really like her toss on an extra 5 bucks
why would you tip her if you already paid her?????????

I am curious about what a hair stylist's salary is and what they are paid per different services?

I assume that they make more doing a highlight than a cut or style. But I am wondering what they do make on a highlight for instance.I am curious about what a hair stylist's salary is and what they are paid per different services?
The thing to consider is many hair stylists do not receive a salary. They rent a booth from the salon. Whatever their clients pay them is what they get paid, minus booth rental and product costs.

So when they price services it needs to pay for their time, and the product. A more expensive product and a more time consuming service could cost quite a bit, whereas a five minute haircut that requires nothing but time is fairly cheap.I am curious about what a hair stylist's salary is and what they are paid per different services?
I pay my hairstylist $150.00 about every four months to weave my hair and put in blonde highlights. This also includes my haircut and style. It is very expensive, but I wouldn't go anywhere else. She knows what she is doing! You get what you pay for.
Depends on where you work!! Some places you do get extra for highlights and perms.. other places you just get flat out the same rate per hour no matter what you do and you get to keep your tips.

Where can I find he best hair stylist in nyc?

I want a inverted bob cut, but I just don't want to go to anyone. I am african american, so I'm looking for a stylist that works with african american (permed) hair. I live in Queens but will travel to Brooklyn or NYC, I do not know my way around the Bronx or Staten Island. any suggestions?Where can I find he best hair stylist in nyc?
I live on the west coast, but I recommend just calling around to places that sound good and then asking question just like you're doing here. I have found that people who work in salons are usually really good listeners.

Your choice of hair style sounds really cute also ;-)
