What is the education needed for hair stylist and the skills needed for it?

Like what is some of the skills I need and how long of education and what degree and what are some credits? What is the education needed for hair stylist and the skills needed for it?
It depends on the state you live in. Some states for example require 1500 hours, others 2000 hours in a school of cosmetology. Some high school vocational technical schools provide cosmetology schools and there is most likely a cosmetology school somewhere close to you. You do not get a degree in cosmetology, you get a license. While there are some schools and christian colleges that provide cosmetology classes and give you their version of a degree, it's just an expensive license. Since it's specifically a number of hours it generally takes 9 months to a year. If you want to become an educator there are other requirements. Once you complete your required hours for your state, you have to take your state board exam which consists of a practical, in which you demonstrate basic skills and a written test. You must pass both portions of the exam to get your license. Good people skills, business skills and an artistic bent will contribute to your success. Good luck. What is the education needed for hair stylist and the skills needed for it?
Like OH My God!!! You can totally contact your locate college to find out but most colleges expect you to have a high school deploma!! Like totally good luck!!!
This varies state by state. I'm licensed in Georgia, where you have to have 1500 hours (about a year) of education in the classroom, or you can do 3000 hours of education as an apprentice in a salon.

If you do your education in a classroom setting, you will get a diploma, not a degree. However, this still doesn't license you to work professionally. You have to then go on to take the state board of cosmetology exam in your state which consists of a practical (hands-on) exam and a theory (written) exam. Once you pass this, you will receive a license from the state board and be ready to work in a salon.

To find out the requirements in your state, try doing a search for ';(your state's name) state board of cosmetology';. The website should come up and give you all the information you need.

Hope this helps, good luck!
yeah what paigepark and like she said it depends on the state. I'm in Iowa and they require 2100 hrs. and I didnt have to do any hands on for my boards.
