What is the formal or professional name of a hair stylist?

is it a beautician? What is the formal or professional name of a hair stylist?
the professional name of a hair stylist is Cosmetologist.and lets not forget some stylist have the training and are licensed as a Barber. those are the professional title's but we also go by beautician, stylist, hair stylist, operator,hairdresser-just to name a few!!What is the formal or professional name of a hair stylist?
It's a ';hair stylist';, or if they specialise in colour it's a ';colourist'; or ';colour technician';. Even in the top salons it's referred to as a ';stylist'; or ';top stylist'; if they're very experienced. A beautician is someone who works on beauty from the neck down but sometimes does hair, usually not in a top salon, more private owned...e'g 'Tina's Hair Parlour' (you get my drift).

EDIT Also a hair Doctor is called a 'Trichologist', this is a medical Doctor for hair not a cosmetic Doctor.

EDIT A ';Cosmetologist'; is NOT the correct name for a hairstylist at all that is totally INCORRECT, please see this dictionary definition of a cosmetologist it's nothing to do with styling hair, it's a broad term meaning the application of cosmetics:

P.S. If she is in fact a ';licensed cosmetologist'; you think she'd know what it means eh?.
