Stylist salaries differ throughout the country. Also, they differ based upon the type of salon you decide to work for. You can choose a salon in which you get paid a commission or you can rent a space in which you pay for your station with a weekly/monthly rent and your salary is based upon how many clients %26amp; services you perform. In general, if you are just getting out of Beauty School, you may want to choose a salon in which you get paid a commission, so you can build your clientele. Once you have a solid client base, you can move over to a booth rental situation. Also, many graduates work as apprentices in top salons and work their way up to a chair, as you learn from top stylists and top salons.

When interviewing schools in your area, it is important to know what their graduation rate is? And most imporant, what percent of their students pass the state board licensing exam on their first try? Schools with a higher graduation and exam pass percentages will be your better schools. In addition, schools that have solid haircolor programs are great, as you will make so much more money by performing haircolor services than you ever will by just cutting %26amp; styling. Look for a school that has a partnership and specialty training program with industry leaders, such as Clairol Professional.

There are some websites you can check out, see below. Check out ads for stylists to gage salaries. Most of the time the salary is really based on you, your client base, the types of services you perform and how many hours you work. Best wishes with your career in the salon industry.
