There are different ways that hair stylists make money. there is your hourly pay, it can be minimum wage to like $11 an hour. and of course tips. You can also do booth rental. Basically you rent a chair in a salon. you are an independent contractor. you set your own hours, prices, buy your own product and have a key. because you set your own prices ';the sky is the limit'; on how much you will make. an average booth rental price is about $200 a week. there is also some salons that only pay you 50% of what you bring in to the salon. and then there are some that are 40% etc. it just depends. so yea, basically when you start out as a hair stylist you make hardly any money. but once you build your clientele you can do whatever you want! :)





and I went to school part time while i was in high school and it took two years. however if you go full time it should be about one year. in CA you need 1600 hours of schooling and a list of services that HAVE to be completed before you can graduate. then you go to your state board and take an exam on all that you have leaned in school. If you pass. then you are a licensed Cosmetologist!
